Noraebang

There are a few types of noraebangs that you can visit, and you should try to go to them all. The first and most recognizable is the luxury noraebangs in areas like Hongdae. These have giant windows in the rooms that allow you to look out while you sing. It also allows people to see who is in the room. When walking in Hongdae this is something that sticks out to many people. It is hard to miss these rooms as there is often different color light as well. At night, these places help illuminate the streets and entice people to come sing. It is also open 24 hours a day so you can go whenever you want, perfect for students.

Next is the sweiri or themed noraebangs. These are all themed differently, you can find ones that have themes like Disney, ancient civilizations, book series, and more. One of the best parts of these is the statues and artwork around the building that fits into the theme. You can get awesome pictures as well as belt out your favorite Disney.

The final type is coin noraebangs, these are a newer type that is very common around universities. This is paid for differently since you put 1,000 KRW into the machine and then sing about 3 or 4 songs. This means you can choose how long you want to stay in the room and leave when you want. These rooms, however, are not as pretty as the luxury and themed rooms.

The way you will pay for the themed and luxury rooms depends on the place. Many places you pay a fee upfront from anywhere around 6,000 KRW to 30,000 KRW an hour. Many of the noraebangs in more popular areas will be in the upper range as there is high demand.

You must be wondering if it’s all in Korean, and the answer is it depends. Some places do have remotes in English but do not be surprised if there isn’t. The remote and book are easy to navigate even if it's in Korean as the book offers a bunch of English songs.

PC bangs

PC Bangs are another type of bang that is not that common in the United States, it is very common in Asia countries, mostly due to the gaming culture. Yes, this is where you will find many gamers who sit here for hours on end playing. The bang has comfy chairs, food, drinks, and a good internet connection which means it’s very common to come to play games here with your friends.

The one thing to note is that you have to have an account in the games you are playing, so if it's a game you have to buy to play, you need to have an account to play here. You can log into the game using your account from the bang and be able to play with your friends or by yourself. For international students, each game may have different servers for different countries, this means you may not be able to play some games here if you don’t have an account on the Korean server. Be sure to look up any games you play to make sure you can play before you come.

You do not need to play games at these bangs though, you can also surf the internet and do homework, but it may be loud here so homework may not be a good idea. Each seat has its own headphones but with lots of people here, it may get loud. You can find these almost anywhere in Seoul, popular areas and universities have multiple different PC bangs by them as well.
