Sokcho

Sokcho

What is it? What is it known for?

Sokcho is a huge tourist spot for those who want to get away from Seoul. People come here to hike in the national park, go to the water park and eat the local cuisine. The city is surrounded by water on 2 sides as well.

Seoraksan National Park holds Korea's third-largest mountain and is known for its beauty. Here you can find breathtaking cliffs and waterfalls, this was also the first area to become a national park by the Korean government. There are more than just Seoraksan mountains here as there are many smaller mountains that total in 30 mountains throughout the park. There is also a cable car if you are not an avid hiker but want to reach the top.

Gwongeumseong Fortress is also known as Onggeumsan Mountain Castle and Toto Castle. This is also just the ruins of the castle as it was during the Goryeo Period. There is also a legend around the decision to build the castle. You can access it by cable car as the hike is up there is very steep and rocky. The fortress is located within Seoraksan National park but is something you should go see besides all the hiking trails.
