Jeju City
What is it? What is it known for?
Jeju City is the capital of Jeju Providence and is the largest city on the island. Here you can visit multiple different beaches, national parks, unique parks and enjoy local food. Jeju island is known as the “Island of the Gods” and “ the Hawaii of Korea”. This is also a popular honeymoon destination for many people. There are more than just beaches on the island and you should try to spend time in the many other attractions.
While in Jeju City you should visit Yongduam Rock and Yongyeon Pond. The rock is said to be the remains of a water dragon Yimugi. While there are many variations on how he got turned into the rock, the area is a scenic place to come visit. While you are there you should also go visit the pond which is 100 meters to the east. You can see the beautiful pavilion by the pond that is surrounded by the canyon. This is arguably the more scenic of the two but it is up to you.
Another thing you should do is visit Dongmun Traditional Market. This market is both Jeju’s largest and oldest market. You can find almost anything here from fresh fish to souvenirs. The one thing you need to try is the Jeju tangerines, this is something Jeju is known for and they taste very different from ones you may be used to.
