Jeonju

Jeonju

What is it? What is it known for?

Jeonju is the cultural capital of Korea and has many attractions you should come to visit. One claim to fame for the city is that it's the home of Bibimbap, getting it here is a must-do. The city is also surrounded by mountains so you can go hike up and get an amazing view.  You can also visit many museums here for free to learn about the history of the city. Jeonju was also the birthplace of the Korean Catholic Church.

Jeondong Catholic Church and Martyr Mountain is a more sobering place to visit in Jeonju. The church is built where Korean Catholics were executed and the mountain is where they were buried. You can go visit the 13 crosses that mark their graves while watching the sunrise or sunset, many locals do this as well. This is something that Christians visiting Korea may like to visit.

Jeonju Hanok Village is a Hanok village with hundreds of Hanok from the Joseon Dynasty. You can visit the different Hanoks that have cafes, museums, and restaurants in them. You can also do Hanok stays here which is something that is highly recommended. The food here is very traditional and will give you a sense of what people ate during those times.
