Gyeongju

Gyeongju

What is it? What is it known for?

Gyeongju is also known as Korea’s museum without walls as it has a long history from back in the Shilla Kingdom. Back during that time, it was the capital of the Kingdom, this left thousands of artifacts, temples, and ancient structures. The city is a gold mine for those who want to learn more about the Shilla Kingdom and Korean culture.

Daereungwon Tumuli Park hosts over 20 tombs that you can go explore. The most well known is the Chumachong Ancient Tomb which is an example of the typical tombs of upper-class people from that era. It is also located in downtown Gyeongju so it is not hard to spot as it's a big grassy area in the city.
