Animal Cafes

For animal lovers, this is going to be your paradise. Many cafes have one type of animal and loads of them. One of the most widely known is the cat and dog cafes. Here you can go and spend hours with the animals as well as play with them. Do note that you will have to take off your shoes when you come, this is done to help keep the animals safe and healthy. You may also have to put your stuff in a chubby so you don’t spread germs from the outside to the animals.

If you want to see a cafe with something other than cats and dogs, other cafes offer animals you wouldn’t think of. Every cafe will have different rules for admission, how long you can stay, and how many people can be in there at once. You also need to be careful of the hours they are open and make sure you follow all the rules.

For those Americans with big feet, you may need to ask for help when finding slippers at these places as there may not be many options available for you. Those with small feet will have to often use kid slippers, they come in a bigger variety of colors though which is fun. You should try to learn what size of foot you have before you come and know what it is converted to for South Korea so you can find shoes easier.

Themed Cafes

Korea is also known for its themed cafes which are very popular for both locals and foreigners for not only the coffee and food but also the theme and aesthetics of the cafe. Growing up in the United States you probably have heard of Harry Potter and if you are a fan of the series there is a cafe for you! 943 King’s Cross is located in Hongdae and is 6 floors tall and has different rooms for you on each floor. This is a must-go place for Harry Potter fans and you can even get the picture by Kings cross station and platform 9 and ¾ you’ve always wanted.

Many different cafes are designed after both international tv shows as well as Korean Dramas, take a look at different cafes before you come. There may even be one for your favorite series. Some cafes are very Instagram worthy and were designed that way. Sadly we cannot talk about all the themed cafes in Korea but there is one that fits for you, all you have to do is look for it.

Quirky Cafes

Quirky cafes are also very popular and are different from the cafes you are used to. You cannot talk about quirky cafes without mentioning the Ddo-Ong Cafe (Poop cafe) located in Insadong. Yes, there is a poop themed cafe but honestly, the cafe is something you need to see yourself. They are very dedicated to sticking to the theme and you get your drinks and food in toilet shaped objects. If you happen to be in Seoul with family and little kids, they will love the cafe. It is also something fun to tell your friends about back home.

Some cafes are hidden from street view and are great places to hide away for a bit. You can even find cafes that are designed for adults which is a nice change of pace. Sadly we couldn’t talk about all the cafes, there are so many to explore and try. You just gotta keep an eye out.

Normal Coffee Shops

If you want a place to study, Korea also has other normal coffee shops you should go try. Don’t just stay with Starbucks since it's what you know. South Korea is pretty well known for its good coffee and it shows in the variety of shops you can go to. One of the popular places to study is Ediya Coffee which is very common around universities. This shop offers a variety of different drinks and food, even bingsu. This chain opens smaller stores but this is because they open a lot more stores outside of prime areas. This has allowed them to open over 3,000 stores as of 2019. The coffee here is very cheap and is perfect for those who want to study in a coffee shop all day. There are also many other local chains you should visit when in Seoul as well as going to Starbucks every once in a while.

There is such a wide variety of coffee shops and cafes in Seoul that there is something for everyone. Make sure to try and visit every type as they all offer their own charms and are good places to study and hang out with friends.
