Busan

 Busan

What is it? What is it known for?

Busan is South Korea’s second-largest city at over 3.5 million people and holds the largest port in South Korea. This port is also the 5th largest in the world. The city holds multiple universities, some of which hold rank in top schools in South Korea.

The city is also known for its beautiful beaches and unique shops and attractions. You may also recognize the name from the 2016 movies “Train to Busan” which is another reason many people know of the city.

Haeundae Beach is one of the most famous beaches in South Korea and is located here in Busan. This is a popular spot for tourists and locals year-round. The beach is about 1.5 kilometers long and a great place to swim, relax and play in the sand.

Another thing you should do when here is to eat the raw sliced mackerel. 80% of the mackerel in South Korea is caught in Busan and it can spoil quickly. Eating the raw mackerel here lets you have it when it is at its peak freshness.

If you want to visit a temple while here the Haedong Yonggungsa Temple is the one you should visit. The temple has both views of the East Sea and the mountains that it’s on. It was built in 1376 and is one of the only temples on the seaside.

Why you should visit here:

  • Different street food (try the Beondegi!)

  • Fewer crowds and more peaceful then Seoul at times

  • There is a book village!
