Waterproofing Process

 Introduction

A few days ago, we did waterproof construction. I'd like to record it so that it can be helpful if we do the same thing next time. so, from now on, I would like to briefly introduce the process.

Process

1. Cleaning

First, sweep the floor to be constructed to remove large dust and then, the floor was cleaned overall by performing water cleaning.

2. Grinding the ground surface

Before covering a paint,  for making surface flat, grinding should be conducted. normally grinder is used in this process. sometimes, in the case that there is so much moss or mold, high-pressure water washing machine is used.

3. Main process

Main process is consist of 3 step, but each step is performed almost same way. the only difference is material that uses in each step.

above figure show the layers that made from each step and materials uses in each step.

 a. Primer(transparent)

After grinding the ground surface, cover the ground with transparent material named primer(in korean, hado). It penetrate the dusty cement floor and helps the main coating paint to adhere to later.
If the primer feels too dry, mix the thinner and dilute it a little before using it.(It doesn't have to be done. and when you mix it, be careful to mix not too much(normally less than 20%))
You don't need to paint primer too thickly, just cover it slightly. If there is a part where the top of the floor feels less painted, one more time mat be applied.
Paint gently so that there is no foam. if foam forms, rub it with a roller once more to get rid of the foam.

b. Urethane Silicon(green/gray)

This process is implemented if deemed necessary. if there is a crack in the wall or floor and there is a leak, fill the crack with silicon.
Note that it should be applied vertically and widely to crack, not along the crack. after finishing the application, press it thinly using rubber spatula.

c. Main Coating(green/gray)

Main coating painter is made of urethane. for this work, apply the thicker the paint, the better. rather than dipping paint on a brush or roller, pour it on the floor and spread it out widely. normally it is recommended to paint several times to a thickness of about 1mm until it is least 3mm.
It is recommended to apply as thickly as possible on areas that are often stepped on or where there is crack.
It is best not to mix thinner, but if you mix thinner, make it less than 5%.

d. Top coating(green/gray)

It is the process of coating the surface so that the urethane main coating does not soak in the sun.
Mix green coating and hardener and stir thoroughly over 60 times. and then apply it on the floor with roller. in this process, if necessary, you can mix the thinner, but there is no functional difference, so you don't have to mix it if you think you don't need it.
Top coating paint will be hardened, so it can break if applied too thickly. therefore apply it about thickness of a single application.
If there is no crack or where it is okay to have crack, you can do top coating without main coating.
It is recommended to reapply the upper layer every four to five years because it is a consumable surface that covers the surface.
