It’s the time of year for ghosts, and goblins as excitement for Halloween winds up. Though the Holloween's not a holiday traditionally celebrated in Korea, in recent years Halloween has become more popular for both kids and adults.
In fact, a 2015 research by online retailers showed that 72% of Koreans were interested in going to a Halloween party. Now, more companies across the Korea are embracing the spooky spirit and offering new ways to join the holiday. If you want to join this popular day, here are three ways to celebrate Halloween in Korea.
1. Halloween Festival at the theme park
Everland has been a trailblazer of Halloween celebrations in Korea, going to great lengths to create a scary and exciting experience for guests every year. This year Everland is keeping the thrills alive with Blood City 2, the horrible sequel to last year’s zombie festival.
Bringing you 73 days of straight horror, the festival runs from August 31st through November 11th and is set in a post-apocalyptic world 10 years into the future in an abandoned city devastated by a horrible zombie virus.
During the festivities, Everland’s most interesting rides will change into a horror show. On the Horror T Express, for example, guests will escape zombies as they board on the platform, while on the Horror Amazon Express, a video screen has a terrifying surprise for guests. Even Safari World gets the scary treatment as it transforms into a zombie-filled nightmare every night.
2. Halloween zombie run
Halloween quite like a running at full speed for your precious life as zombies chase you. That’s the theme of the Zombie Run, a 3km race where participants must collect vaccines as they escape from a herd of the undead.

Each runner gets three “lives”, represented by flags attached to a belt, and they must make it to the end of the race with at least 1 life intact as they deliver the cures at the finish line. Those that succeed are rewarded with a medal. After the contest, participants take commemorative photos with the undead. The Zombie Run operates every year round in different cities across the Korea. Itaewon, famous for being a hub for the international community in Seoul, is perhaps the most busiest area, with party-goers. Hongdae tends to cater to the younger university students. Major hotels are also known to prepare for the holiday, offering Halloween pool parties, singing competition, and delicious Halloween buffets.
