Advantages of Studying in Korea

Education Competitiveness

In its announcement of the 2011 World Competitiveness Ranking, the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) ranked the Education Competitiveness of South Korea 29th among the 59 countries surveyed and 4th among Asian countries after Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The Programm for International Student Assessment of the OECD has put South Korea in the 3rd to 6th place among the 65 countries surveyed in the past few years. The country was also ranked 1st in a digital reading assessment (DRA). Such Education Competitiveness means that the country is able to provide good-quality education services to nationals from other countries.
Advanced Technology & Science

In 2013, South Korea topped a ranking of ICT development for the third consecutive year among the 152 countries surveyed by the International Telecommunications Union. South Korea boasts the world’s top position in the information/communication sectors as well as in the machinery, chemistry, shipbuilding, and car manufacturing sectors. Most of the nation’s households (i.e. more than 20 million households) use the high-speed Internet. As a powerhouse in the field of information and communication, the country will be able to help young people from other countries develop their potential for success in the relevant sectors with its dynamic technological prowess.
Rich Culture & Dynamic Life

As a country boasting a long tradition and culture, South Korea has a multitude of cultural heritages, both tangible and intangible. Hallyu (the current worldwide vogue for Korean pop culture), which started with TV dramas, has increased the number of lovers of Korean culture and the Korean language throughout the world. The recent popularity of K-Pop shows that the country’s culture is becoming a culture of the world. Young students studying in this country, where longstanding tradition harmonizes with sophisticated modern technology, will be able to develop the leadership skills and insight that will help them become high-caliber leaders of the future.
Low Tuition & Living Costs

Compared to certain English-speaking countries like the United States and Canada, South Korea offers lower tuition and living costs. The country does not ask foreign students for extra tuition fees and provides generous scholarship programs for them. Recently, the South Korean government stepped up its support for foreign students in the form of dormitory fees, part-time job opportunities, and jobs after graduation. Students from Asian countries, in particular, will find South Korea a nice place to foster their future dreams, learning things from the country that has accomplished many great feats in a very short time. They will find themselves adapting to life in South Korea, a country in the same cultural sphere as their own, without much difficulty either emotionally or culturally.
Support for Careers

The South Korean government holds a job expo for foreign students studying in the country every year, operating a home page (www.goldcard.or.kr ) designed to help foreign students land jobs within the country. The Gold Card (for those majoring in high-end technologies) and the Science Card (for those majoring in advanced science) are efforts made in the said areas. Students enrolled on an undergraduate, master’s degree or PhD course or those attending an acculturation program for more than six months may find part-time jobs after obtaining the relevant permit.
National Institute for International Education Development (NIIED)

The NIIED operates the international education service in step with the trend toward globalization and to meet national demand. The NIIED carries out the major programs of the Study in Korea Project and operates the NIIED Human Resources Management System (HURIK), which is designed to utilize good-quality human resources efficiently.
